Reading (February 13, 2008) Kevin K. Murphy, president of Berks County Community Foundation, was elected chair of the board of directors of The Funders’ Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities at the group’s annual meeting in Miami last week. His term will begin in April 2008.
The Funders’ Network, based in Coral Gables, Florida, is a membership organization of corporate, private, international, community and intermediary foundations that are working to solve the environmental, social and economic problems created by suburban sprawl and urban disinvestment. The group’s 90-plus members include foundation giants like The Heinz Endowments, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
“Berks County Community Foundation joined The Funders’ Network several years ago in response to our community’s efforts to reduce sprawl and increase municipal cooperation,” Murphy said. “My election as chair is a direct result of Berks County’s leadership on issues like land use and the regionalization of services.”
Murphy previously served as secretary and treasurer of the group.
