Four Berks County Nonprofit Executives Selected for Prestigious Fellowship Program

September 14, 2007Reading, PA   Executives from four Berks County nonprofit organizations have been named Berks County Community Foundation Fellows. During the yearlong fellowship they will attend executive training valued at more than $10,000 per fellow, including a week of intensive study at Harvard or Stanford universities.

The four fellows are:

  • Tammy White, Senior Vice President Resource Development, United Way of Berks County
  • Tammy Mitgang, President & CEO, Reading Musical Foundation
  • LuAnn Oatman, President & CEO, Berks County Senior Citizens Council
  • Christopher A. Ritter, Library Director, Wyomissing Public Library

     The Berks County Community Foundation Fellows Program is an executive training program that includes:

  • one week of intense management course work at either Harvard Business School or Stanford University;
  • two days of professional communications training with Martel & Associates, a firm that was founded by Myles Martel, Ph.D., who served as President Ronald Reagan’s personal debate advisor;
  • five “Special Topics Luncheons” with senior chief executive officers from nonprofit organizations; and
  • individual career coaching with an organizational development professional.

The program is for Berks County nonprofit executives with at least 8 years of professional work experience.  To qualify, fellows must be employed by a Berks County nonprofit organization that is registered as 501(c)(3) for IRS purposes.

The 2007 fellows are the second group to go through the program. Six fellows completed the program in 2006:  Sandra L. Wise, Chief Operating Officer, Olivet Boys and Girls Club; Mary Kay Bernosky, Executive Director, Berks Women in Crisis; Jonathan D. Encarnacion, Executive Director/CEO, Centro Hispano Daniel Torres/Hispanic Center; Toni Eckert, Executive Director, Leadership Berks; Diane LaBelle, Executive Director, Goggleworks Center for the Arts; and Tami Jo Shimp, Development Director, Berks County Conservancy.

The total cost of the program is about $10,000 per participant, of which Berks County Community Foundation covers 90%. Nonprofit organizations that want to send their employees through the Fellows program contribute $1,000 toward the cost.
